| Extra Credit |

There are four ways to give extra credit on the page: Extra Credit Points — Create a New Assignment and select "Input as: Extra Credit Points" from the menu. This simply makes an assignment out of 0 points. This may potentially raise a grade above 100%. (This option is not available with Rubrics. It is not necessary to make a separate category for extra credit like some gradebooks require. You may also give negative extra credit as penalities.) Extra A — Create a new assignment and give students full credit, e.g., 10 / 10. This brings the student's average closer to 100%, but never over. This makes little difference for students who already have very high grades. Adjust Percents — Raise a student's total grade by any percent by creating a new assignment and selecting "Input as: Adjust Percents" from the menu. This is the simplest method because you know exactly how much it affects the grade. Adjust Scores — Show extra credit as part of a regular assignment simply by typing a score like "49+5" or "49+10%". The sum is calculated internally, but the score appears on reports exactly as you type it, so students can see how much extra credit was added. Troubleshooting Extra credit has no effect If you are using Weighted Categories, you cannot have a separate category for Extra Credit (e.g., it cannot calculate the percent of 10 / 0 points). You must either put the Extra Credit Points in another category, such as Homework, or switch to Unweighted categories.
Likewise, if the first assignment you give is Extra Credit Points, it cannot calculate a grade until you enter some regular assignments too. |
