When you use mobile device to access snapgrades.com, the pages are optimized for the small screen so it's easy to navigate with your finger without zooming. We have tested this on iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android (and iPad too, which uses the full site, not the mobile version described below.) We have not tested it on Blackberry, Palm, or other mobile devices, but customers tell us it works well.
You do not need to download anything from the App Store. Just use your mobile browser to go to snapgrades.com. An internet connection is required; you cannot work offline. The mobile version for teachers is simplified for four basic functions: Roll — Tap a student to mark them Absent. Tap again for Tardy. Tap a third time to return to Present. Tap "..." for other attendance codes. (If you see a padlock by a student, that means you are restricted from changing their attendance for some reason. You must use a regular computer to see the explanation.) If you have block periods, tapping the student's name enters roll for both periods. To enter roll for just one of the periods, tap the mark for that specific period, not the student's name. Assignments — Tap the "Assign" tab to create new assignments and enter scores. Check the "Quick scores" option to quickly enter scores by tapping instead of typing; uncheck it to type an exception. Tap "..." to type a comment. (To delete or copy assignments, or to select standards and other options, you must use a regular computer.) Grades — Tap the "Class" tab to look up grades. Tap any student to see details. Tap the "Class" tab to return to the list of students. Referrals — In the main menu tap "New Referral/Incident" to add a new incident to a student's discipline log. (Note: Once you save an incident, you cannot edit it unless you go to a regular computer.)
Main Menu — Tap the class tab-bar for the main menu, where you can switch classes, switch gradebooks, go to Admin Mode, switch to the full site, or logout. The mobile version for admins is simplified for three basic functions: Find — Look up any student's schedule to see what room they should be in each period. It shows the bell schedule for the current day only, with the current period highlighted, and the student's attendance that day. Search for students by name or ID, or type just part of their name or initials. Tap the student's photo to enlarge it. Tap the schedule to see the teachers and subjects. Receive Referrals — Asst. principals and counselors can check their inboxes for new referrals. The "Refs" tab shows the number of new referrals (it updates only when you navigate, so click the tab whenever you want an update). Tap any referral to see the details. Tap the student's name (not their photo) to see their entire behavior log. (Admins must have the "D" permission to see referrals.) New Referrals — Tap the "New" tab to write-up a new referral/incident. Type the student's name or ID, or type just part of their name or initials. Tap the student's photo to enlarge it. You may include multiple students in the same incident. To edit a referral you already saved, tap the "Refs" tab and change the Inbox menu to "My Recent Incidents".
Main Menu — Tap the "Admin" tab-bar for the main menu, where you can switch years, switch schools, switch to your gradebook, switch to the full site, or logout. Full Site — For all other features, you must use a regular computer. Or select "Go to Full Site" from the main menu to use the full site on your mobile device (but you'll need to zoom and scroll). To return to the mobile version, select "Mobile Version" from the Setup menu. Saving Changes — Changes are saved when you tap "Done" or any other tab, or it auto-saves 50 seconds after you make a change. But if you make a change then immediately shut off your device, the change will be lost since it was not sent to the server. Shortcut Icon — On iPhone it's recommended to save SnapGrades to your home screen. First go to snapgrades.com so you see the mobile login page, then tap the "+" button and select "Add to Home Screen". Then when you click the "SG" icon instead of Safari, it hides the web address and back button, etc., so you have more screen space.
Security — Security should always be a concern, especially if a student gets a hold of your mobile device. When you login, set it to logout when idle 5 to 60 minutes. Or you may select "never" so it doesn't logout, but in that case be sure your device is password-protected (on iPhone see Settings > General > Passcode Lock; on Android see Settings > Locations & security > Set up screen lock).
The mobile version for students and parents has all the same features as the regular site (except your phone has limited capabilities for file uploads/downloads). It works better to rotate the screen sideways to view grades. |
