Prior to the late 1990's, the Internet was not very secure, so some school districts still have policies against posting grades on the Internet or hosting data off-site. But since then, the advancement of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) now allows your data to be just as secure on the Internet and off-site as it is on your school network. Actually, your data is more secure in our professionally managed enterprise-class data center than on your district network, just as it is safer to keep your money in a bank than in your own safe.
The main security threat is to worry about is spyware, which hackers use to capture your passwords as you type them, regardless of where your data is hosted. So be sure to keep your computers protected!
